Pierre Harmse

Orthotist & Prosthetist | Co-Founder

Pierre is a co-founder of Ability Rehab and a Specialist Orthotist and Prosthetist with extensive clinical experience in upper- and lower-limb prosthetics, orthotic management, rehabilitation, and complex patient care. He has worked across private, state, and multidisciplinary rehabilitation settings, with a particular focus on amputee rehabilitation, mobility restoration, and long-term functional outcomes. Diagnosed with osteosarcoma at the age of 11 and undergoing an amputation at 21, Pierre brings a deeply personal understanding to his work. This lived experience, combined with his clinical expertise, allows him to guide patients through their rehabilitation journey with both technical precision and genuine empathy supporting not only physical recovery, but also confidence, independence, and quality of life.

Serishni

Physiotherapist

Serishni is a highly skilled physiotherapist specializing in rehabilitation and physical therapy solutions. Serishni started her professional career as Qualitfied Exercise Scientist. She then went onto further her education in Physiotherapy and post graduate studies into Orthopedic manipulation and M.A.S.E therapy for peadiatrics.

She has a passion for helping patients achieve their highest level of function. Serishni uses her keen assessment skills together with advanced therapeutic techniques and a patient-centered approach to help individuals recover from injuries, manage chronic conditions, and optimize physical performance.

Dedicated to ongoing professional development, Serishni integrates evidence-based practices and innovative methods to ensure patients achieve their health and wellness goals. Compassionate and approachable, she empowers patients to regain confidence and independence through movement and recovery.

Chané du Plessis

Administration

Chané is a dedicated administrative professional with a profound commitment to leveraging her expertise in psychology to support others. While obtaining her Honors degree in Psychology, and unfortunately encountering challenges in securing admission to a Master’s program, her unwavering passion for assisting individuals persisted.

This fervor led her towards alternative paths. Presently, as a valued member of Ability Rehab , Chane applies her profound understanding of psychology to address the complex emotional and psychological aspects associated with amputation. Her role enables her to utilize her academic background to provide invaluable support to individuals navigating trauma and psychological hurdles, exemplifying her enduring dedication to making a meaningful difference in the lives of others.

Waseela Dadabhay

Physiotherapist

Waseela is a dedicated and experienced physiotherapist with a passion for improving the quality of life of her patients. With many years in practice, her special interests lie with acute and chronic pain management and female pelvic health, including pre- and post-natal physiotherapy and pelvic floor dysfunctions. Whether recovering from surgery, managing a respiratory disorder, rehabilitation after a neuromusculoskeletal injury or orthopaedic condition, she is committed to guiding you through your healing journey. Her holistic approach combines evidence-based assessment and treatment within an integrative biopsychosocial framework, ensuring personalised and compassionate care tailored to your needs.

Gayle Seago

Occupational Therapist & Lymphoedema Therapist

Gayle is a qualified Occupational Therapist and certified Lymphoedema Therapist with a specialised focus on physical rehabilitation, amputee care, and post-mastectomy recovery. Her work centres on helping patients rebuild strength, independence, and functional confidence following limb loss, cancer treatment, or surgery – retraining movement patterns, managing lymphoedema, building stamina, and restoring meaningful participation in daily activities. Through a meticulous, anatomy-informed assessment process and individualised goal-setting, she supports each patient in adapting to their new physical reality and returning to the activities that matter most to them. As the practice’s dedicated Lymphoedema Therapist, she provides manual lymphatic drainage (MLD) and specialised massage therapy to patients managing lymphoedema following mastectomy, amputation, or other surgical procedures – ensuring each patient receives expert, compassionate care as part of a fully coordinated rehabilitation plan.

Marijke Du Plessis

Psychologist

Marijke is a registered Psychologist with the Health Professions Council of South Africa. She brings a unique approach to trauma-focused, brain-based physical rehabilitation. Her work centres on helping individuals navigate the psychological impact of a traumatic episode, with special interests in amputee rehabilitation. Through modalities such as BrainWorking Recursive Therapy (BWRT) and Brainspotting, she supports patients in processing trauma at a neurological level, promoting emotional regulation, resilience, and meaningful adjustment to life after limb loss. As part of our multidisciplinary team, she plays a vital role in restoring not only function, but confidence, identity, and independence ensuring each patient is supported holistically throughout their rehabilitation journey.

Pralene

Certified Orthotist and Prosthetist

Pralene is a Certified Orthotist and Prosthetist with a clinical background spanning hospital and private practice settings, where she developed broad experience managing orthopaedic, neurological, diabetic, vascular, and post-operative patients. Working closely alongside orthopaedic surgeons, physicians, physiotherapists, occupational therapists, and nursing staff, she built a strong foundation in patient assessment, orthotic prescription and fitting, patient education, and multidisciplinary rehabilitation.

Her approach to orthotic care is grounded in a thorough understanding of each patient’s functional goals – ensuring that every device prescribed is not only clinically appropriate, but meaningfully tailored to the individual’s lifestyle and rehabilitation journey. She understands that progress in rehabilitation rarely follows a straight line, and brings both the technical skill and the personal resilience to support patients through the challenges that recovery inevitably presents.

As part of the Ability Rehab team, she contributes a depth of clinical experience and a genuine commitment to patient-centred care helping each patient move forward with confidence, function, and independence.
